Brooklyn’s Boing Boing Maternity Shop Offers Discounts to Lesbian Moms
A handful of angry customers at a baby supply store in Park Slope, Brooklyn are showing their true colors enraged by a special 10-percent discount offered to lesbian moms.
Boing Boing maternity boutique owner Karen Paperno created the discount for women because she is an LGBT ally and believes that women have it a little rougher than men in the workforce. “I like to help people,” she said, adding, “Women make less money than men.”
Paperno has been fielding negative calls for the past week and, surprisingly or not, most of the customers on the other end of the line are not even from within the shopping area. One of the callers took it a step too far by threatening to hurt the store owner.
“It’s really scary,” said Paperno. “I’m living in fear; I feel so violated.”
Paperno is married to a man and her store has been open for 15 years, but the lack of loyalty to her contribution is palpable. One customer called her, “a fat bull dyke who needs to get f—ed.”
Even so, Paperno has no plans to remove the sign by the register – in plain sight for all to see.
