The elegance of the furniture will give contrasting elegant lines. In order to emphasize the shape of the product, inlay of slats is used, and for the same reasons that moldings are used.
Wood inlay is a work that only at first glance seems difficult. In fact, only three operations: choose the groove, make the bar-inlay and fasten it in the groove. Any wood can be used for inlay, which can be dissolved into thin strips. Choose wood that is contrasting to the base material. We take birch or aspen for white slats. For black and dark - ebony or walnut.
We take one-color strips with a section of 1,5x2,5mm. They are durable, do not look massive, give elegance and sophistication to the product. We choose narrow grooves for such slats. Make it a simple hand cutter. Of course, complex configurations can be chosen from a template with a milling machine, but in this case chipping is possible even at speeds above 20,000 rpm.

We make the cutter yourself from gauge. Saw a slit in the movable rail and insert a cutter 1.5mm thick, which can be made from trimming the saw blade. Fasten the cutter with two bolts with nuts. The cutter is sharpened so that the “tooth” protrudes 2.5 mm. Having formed a tooth, we sharpen it from all sides. First, make thin sections of the fiber. We lean the tooth back a little and with light movements choose wood. You can cut on yourself and on your own. We deepen until the gauge rail slides along the surface to be machined. More often we clean the "tooth" from chips. Homemade cutter works fine and along and across the fibers. When processing dense wood species, we use a marking knife, cutting through the wood to half the depth. The corners are also cut by a marking knife and ordinary chisels. Using the patterns, select steep curved lines.

Curves that are difficult to cut with a surface gauge, cut out according to the pattern with a special knife with a double blade. Making a pattern of thin plywood. Making a knife: fasten to the handle 2 sharpened blades and a thin gasket between them. With this knife we cut the contour according to the template, then use the chisel to choose the material to the desired depth.

Choose a groove of any configuration with a milling machine with a guide for templates. We trace the curve inside the template, but not outside. Select the groove and we clean it with a cutter from the surface gauge.
Fit groove to groove
- Cut into circular sawing blanks. Blanks cut out with a knife on the ruler, the width of the cut slats - 6mm. Fill the sides in accordance with the shape of the groove to the desired thickness, then we plan a hand plane.
- After applying the adhesive, quickly insert the strips into the grooves, as the walls of the groove swell. Hammer hammer the bar into the groove through the wooden strip.
- With lap we lay down the bar, make several passes. Part of the protruding slats compaction plane.
- After the glue hardens, we flush the inlay flush. It is not necessary to grind, because we can paint inlaid with dust.
