What is a bradycardia?
Problems with the cardiovascular system are occupied byone of the leading places on the lists of the WHO (World Health Organization). They cause 30% of deaths, and every year this figure only increases. The reason for their appearance may be: bad ecology, hard working conditions, malnutrition, smoking, etc. In addition, many diseases of this type can be congenital and inherited. That is why you should carefully monitor your health and, at the slightest deterioration, seek qualified medical care.
One of the fairly common problems withthe cardiovascular system is a bradycardia. This is a violation of the sinus rhythm, which leads to a decrease in heart beat frequency. In the manifestations of this disease, the heart rate may drop below 40 beats per minute.
What is bradycardia and why does it appear?
Bradycardia is a disordernormal functioning of the sinus node, which acts as a pacemaker. It is located at the beginning of the lower and upper hollow veins, right in front of the right atrium. This disease causes irregular heartbeat rhythm, which causes a reduction in the number of cardiac contractions, up to 50-30 beats per minute (in which case the reduced automatism of the sinus node is fixed and the disease is called sinus bradycardia).
Measurement of heart rate is necessaryeven healthy people. Knowing how the heart beats, physicians will be able to determine the occurrence of a problem with it at an early stage. But it must be noted that bradycardia can appear in absolutely healthy people, a slight fluctuation in the rhythm often does not cause any negative sensations. If the number of heart beats falls below 40 per minute, then a syncope, a cold sweat and a feeling of weakness, dizziness, etc., are possible.
There are several reasons for the occurrencebradycardia, in the first place, these are disturbances in the conduction system of the heart, which block the transmission of an electrical pulse from the sinus node. In addition, malfunctions can appear within the sinus node itself, which will also affect the number of contractions of the heart muscle. These problems can be a consequence of diseases such as atherosclerosis, which developed on coronary vessels, cardiosclerosis, myocarditis, as well as scars that occurred after heart attacks.
It is worth noting that the heart rate is verystrongly affected by various medications. They can cause the development of tachycardia or bradycardia. That is why it is very important to pay attention to the side effects of medications. In addition, the heart rhythm can be affected by: high intracranial pressure, diseases of the endocrine and autonomic systems, as well as various severe infections.
What are the symptoms of bradycardia?
The main symptoms of this ailment are:
- rapid fatigue and intolerance to physical activity;
- the occurrence of dizziness or even loss of consciousness;
- high circulatory failure;
- the occurrence of angina pectoris.
In order to determine the bradycardia, it is necessaryconduct an electrocardiogram (ECG). Only after that the doctor will be able to prescribe the correct course of treatment. In the early stages of bradycardia, you can get rid of the medication, but in a neglected state requires the installation of a pacemaker.
