The Altai Territory is located in the southeastWestern Siberia and borders with Kazakhstan, the Republic of Altai, Novosibirsk and Kemerovo regions. Barnaul is the administrative center of the Altai Territory.
Since this region is located on mountain plains, the climate here is also inhomogeneous: the foothill part is predominantly temperate, gradually converting to the continental one.
The Republic of Altai is a subject of the Russian Federation. The capital is Gorno-Altaisk. The Republic borders with the Altai Territory, the Republic of Tyva, Khakassia, the Kemerovo Region, as well as with other countries - Kazakhstan, China, Mongolia.
The population is about 215 thousand people. The main industry of the republic's revenues is the tourist business (winter and summer health-improving programs). On the territory of the region there is Lake Teletskoye, on the coast of which a large number of health facilities (boarding houses, tourist bases and places for rest) are concentrated.
The Chinese city of Altai is in the northXinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The city, or rather the city district, borders on the counties Burchun, Zimunai and Burultokay, the northern part of the county is the border with Mongolia. By the way, Mongolia also has a city with the name Altai. And it is not the last, because this toponym is widely distributed.
